Albendazole Compound Basics

Albendazole Compound requires a prescription from your veterinarian. When used in cattle and sheep, albendazole treats intestinal worms, liver flukes, lungworms, stomach worms, and tapeworms. When used in goats, it treats liver flukes. This medication can also be used in cats and dogs to treat flukes. Albendazole compound is available in a capsule and an oral suspension.

Albendazole Compound Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow the instructions printed on the prescription label. Shake oral suspensions well before use. Cattle, sheep, and goats should receive the oral suspension, while capsules may be used for dogs and cats. Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Albendazole Compound Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Use albendazole with extreme caution in animals that are pregnant or lactating, as it can cause birth defects. This medication can also cause bone marrow toxicity in cats and dogs. Do not use in llamas. Albendazole may interact with some other medications. Inform your veterinarian of any all medications your pet may be taking. This is especially important if your pet is taking dexamethasone, praziquantel, or theophylline. Finally, if you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects

If you believe your pet is experiencing an adverse reaction, seek immediate veterinary attention. Signs of an adverse reaction or more serious side effect include diarrhea, vomiting, or yellowing of the mucous membranes.
