AnaSed Basics

AnaSed is a safe and fast-acting injectable medication used in dogs, cats, and horses. It is classified as a sedative and analgesic that has muscle relaxant properties. These properties make it similar to medications such as detomidine, dexmedetomidine, and romifidine. AnaSed is used for a state of sedation, a short period of analgesia, and a preanesthetic. Xylazine is the active ingredient in this product. Xylazine is a nonnarcotic compound that works by depressing the central nervous system. More specifically, it inhibits the intraneural transmission of impulses in the central nervous system.  It is available in two strengths:

  • Small Animal (SA) 100 mg / mL, 50 cc
  • Large Animal (LA) 20 mg / mL, 20 cc.

This medication requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
