Capstar is used to treat fleas in cats and dogs.

Capstar Basics

Capstar is an oral medication that immediately eliminates fleas on your pet. It is useful as a flea adulticide in both dogs and cats. When dogs and cats come into our hospital and have any signs of fleas, we immediately give them a Capstar pill. We usually combine the immediate kill from the Capstar with a topical flea preventative that has a long residual activity, such as Frontline Plus, Advantage II, or Revolution. This is the most widely used oral adulticide and certainly has its place in an overall flea control program.

This product is available over the counter. No prescription is required. It is available in 6-packs for up to 25lbs and over 25lbs. Capstar starts killing adult fleas within 30 minutes and is effective up to 24 hours.
