Ciprofloxacin Basics

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that treats a wide range of bacterial infections, including skin and soft-tissue infections, wound infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, or kidney infections. Fluoroquinolones kill susceptible strains of bacteria by preventing their DNA from unwinding, thus preventing the bacterial DNA from duplicating.

This medication requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in 250mg and 500mg tablets.

Ciprofloxacin Directions

Give as directed by your veterinarian and follow the instructions printed on the prescription label. Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and response to the medication. Allow your pet access to plenty of water. Give with or without food. In the case of a missed dose of ciprofloxacin, give it as soon as you remember, or wait until it is time to give the next dose. Do NOT give a double dose of this medication, as overdoses can occur.
