Famotidine Basics

Famotidine treats stomach and intestinal ulcers, stomach inflammation, and acid reflux. It is in an extra-label anti-ulcer medication. Like other histamine receptor-2 blockers, famotidine decreases the acid content in the stomach to provide a more favorable stomach pH.

This product requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in 10mg, 20mg, and 40mg tablets.

Famotidine Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and response to the medication.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Famotidine Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in pets with known hypersensitivity to famotidine. Do not use in pregnant or lactating animals. Use with caution in animals with kidney damage, liver damage, stomach cancer, or asthma. Famotidine may interact with some other medications. Therefore, inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking This is especially important if your pet is curtainly taking certain antacids, metoclopramide, sucralfate, digoxin, or ketoconazole. ‘If you notice any behavioral or physiological side effects when administering this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects

Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, however, they can occur. In the case of an adverse reacion or serious side effect, seek immediate veterinary attention.
