Hydrocortisone is available by prescription only. Hydrocortisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid used to treat allergies, asthma, arthritis, inflammation, inflammatory bowel disease, shock, and skin disease.
Hydrocortisone Compound Warnings
Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Use with extreme caution in pregnant pets. Use with caution in pets suffering from Cushing’s disease, diabetes, GI ulcers, heart disease, osteoporosis, thrombocytopenia, or tuberculosis. Pets may need to gradually discontinue hydrocortisone use. Hydrocortisone may interact with some other medications. Inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking especially antacids, antibiotics, aspirin, corticosteroids, digoxin, immunosuppressive drugs, insulin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), or theophylline. Store at room temperature. Shake oral suspensions well before use. Store protected from light and moisture.
Hydrocortisone Compound Directions
Give as directed by your veterinarian. Follow the instructions printed on the prescription label. Hydrocortisone treatment should be gradually discontinued. Finish the entirety of the prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Shake oral suspensions well. Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.
If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering hydrocortisone, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects
Hydrocortisone may cause birth defects. Use cautiously in pregnant pets. Hydrocortisone use should be gradually discontinued. Abruptly discontinuing hydrocortisone treatment could result in serious side effects.
