Omeprazole Compound treat GI ulcers and GI erosion. This medication is a proton pump inhibitor that works by keeping hydrogen ions from pumping into the stomach.

Omeprazole Compound requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available as a capsule, chewable, or oral suspension.

Omeprazole Compound Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Shake oral suspensions well before use. Give medication before your pet’s first meal of the day. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and response to the medication.

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in pets with known allergy or hypersensitivity to omeprazole. Use with caution in pregnant or lactating animals. This compound may interact with some other medications. Therefore, inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking. This is especially important if your pet is currently taking ampicillin, benzodiazepines, bone marrow suppressants, cyclosporine, itraconazole, ketoconazole, or warfarin. Finally, if you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects

Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, however, they can occur. Omeprazole is typically prescribed for short periods of time. Long term use may cause serious side effects. Contact your veterinarian if you believe your pet is suffering from an adverse reaction or side effect.
