Ponazuril is available by prescription only. Ponazuril is used to treat equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM). EPM is caused by Sarcocystis neurona, a parasite. Ponazuril kills Sarcocystis neurona.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Ponazuril is for use in horses only. Ponazuril is not intended for human use or consumption. Use with caution in pregnant or nursing horses. Symptoms may worsen when treatment begins. Store at room temperature. Store protected from moisture. Shake the oral suspension before use.

Serious Side Effects and Allergic Reactions
If you believe your horse is experiencing an allergic reaction to ponazuril, contact your veterinarian immediately. Signs of an allergic reaction may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. After beginning ponazuril, symptoms may worsen. This could include the loss of control of body movement. Contact your veterinarian if you notice a loss of control of body movement in your horse, as this could be permanent.
