Ranitidine OTC Basics
Ranitidine OTC is a histamine receptor blocker used to treat and prevent ulcers. It treats a variety of problems associated with the stomach and intestinal tract, including stomach and intestinal ulcers, stomach inflammation, and acid reflux. It is also used in animals with mast cell tumors. Like other histamine receptor-2 blockers, this medication decreases the acid content in the stomach to provide a more favorable stomach pH.
Ranitidine OTC does not require a prescription from your veterinarian.
Ranitidine OTC Directions
Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the product packaging. Allow your pet access to plenty of water while administering this medication. Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.
Dosage for Dogs and Cats
Give 0.25 to 1 mg / pound of body weight. Give by mouth every 8 – 12 hours.
Ranitidine OTC Warnings
Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use this medication in animals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to this drug. Do not use in pregnant or lactating animals.Ranitidine OTC will manage your pet’s problems, however, it will not cure them. Use with caution in animals suffering from kidney damage, liver damage, stomach cancer, diabetes, or asthma. Ranitidine OTC may interact with some other medications. Therefore, inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking. This is especially important if your pet is currently taking certain antacids or ketoconazole. If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering this product, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects
Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, however, they can occur. In the case of a more serious reaction, seek veterinary attention. Common allergic reactions and serious side effects are facial swelling, breathing difficulties, hives, blistering rashes, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), or dark urine.
