Ranitidine Basics

Ranitidine treats ulcers, gastritis, esophagitis, and reflux. It works by inhibiting histamine. This, in turn, causes a reduction in gastric acid.

Ranitidine requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in 150mg and 300mg tablets.

Ranitidine Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Give before the first meal of the day for best results. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and response to the medication.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Ranitidine Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not administer to pets with known allergies to ranitidine. Use with caution in older pets as well as pets that are pregnant or nursing. Use with caution if your pet has pre-existing liver or kidney disease. Ranitidine may interact with some other medications. Therefore, inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking. This is especially important if your pet is currently taking antacids, ketoconazole, or procainamide. If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while giving this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.
