Rimadyl Basics

Rimadyl, or carprofen, is a medication for dogs that reduces pain and inflammation due to chronic arthritis or pain. It treats limping, lameness, decreased activity/exercise, stiffness, decreased movement of joints, and pain relief following surgery. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs) that is related to aspirin and ibuprofen. Like other NSAIDs, this medication works by preventing the formation of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, pain, and fever.

Rimadyl requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in liver-flavored chewable tablets and non-chewable caplets.

Rimadyl Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Complete the prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Give this medication with food to prevent stomach upset.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Rimadyl Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Rimadyl is not intended for human use. It is for use in dogs only.
