Selegiline is used to improve brain function in older dogs and those suffering from Cushing’s disease.
$1.15 – $1.50
Selegiline treats disorders associated with the nervous system in older dogs. This medication improves the quality of life of senile dogs who are suffering from Canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) and Cushing’s disease, (or hyperadrenocorticism). The exact action of this medication is not known, but it is thought to increase the concentration of dopamine. Higher levels of dopamine improve many cognitive processes.
Selegiline requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available as a 5mg capsule or tablet.
Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Allow your pet access to plenty of water throughout treatment. It may take up to 30 days to see visible results.
Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in pets with a known hypersensitivity to selegiline or in those pets that are pregnant or nursing. Do not give this medication with antidepressants, such as Prozac, or narcotics. Only use this medication in cases of CDS or Cushing’s disease. It effectively treats pituitary-based Cushing’s disease only, however, it cannot effectively treat adrenal gland-based Cushing’s disease. This medication is not intended for human use. If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while giving this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.
