Sileo Gel Basics

Sileo Gel treats noise aversion in dogs. And, is the only FDA approved medication for noise aversion. Sileo’s active ingredient, dexmedetomidine, works by inhibiting noradrenaline release.

Sileo Gel requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in 0.09 mg/mL 3mL oral syringe.

Sileo Gel Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of treatment depends on the condition being treated and response to the medication. Apply Sileo Gel between your dog’s cheek and gum. Sileo Gel should not be swallowed. If swallowed, do not give another dose of Sileo for at least 2 hours. Wear gloves when applying Sileo. Do not allow your pet to eat or drink for 15 minutes after applying Sileo. Give 30- 60 minutes before the noise event.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Sileo Gel Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Sileo Gel is not intended for human use. Do not use in pets that are pregnant or nursing. Do not use in pets with known hypersensitivity to dexmedetomidine. Wear gloves while administering Sileo, and do not allow Sileo to touch open skin. Avoid exposure to your eyes. Sileo Gel should be absorbed through the mucosa, and should not be swallowed. If your pet swallows Sileo, do not give another dose for at least 2 hours. Do not give your pet treats or food within 15 minutes of administering Sileo. Use with caution if your pet also suffers from cardiovascular disease, hypotension, kidney disease, liver disease, respiratory disease, or shock. Do not use in pets with stress due to extreme heat or cold. If you notice any behavioral or physiological side effects when administering this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects

Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, however, they can occur. In the case of an adverse reaction or serious side effect, seek immediate veterinary attention. Dogs who exhibit signs of an adverse reaction should not be fed and should be kept warm until Sileo wears off.
