Thyro-Tabs Canine are used to provide thyroid replacement therapy in animals suffering from hypothyroidism.
$0.06 – $0.20
Thyro-Tabs (levothyroxine) treat hypothyroidism. This medication is a synthetic hormone used as a replacement therapy in conditions in which the thyroid gland is not producing an adequate amount of hormones. Synthetic thyroxine (levothyroxine) works much like the naturally occurring thyroxine to maintain normal metabolism in the body. Proper levels of thyroid hormones have significant beneficial effects on brain, heart, muscle, nerve, and kidney function.
Thyro-Tabs require a prescription from your veterinarian.
Use as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. For best results, give this medication 30 minutes before food. Tablets may also be given with food. Allow your pet access to plenty of water during treatment.
Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine. Frequent blood tests to measure thyroid hormone levels may be necessary during treatment. Do not use if your pet has ever had thyrotoxicosis or an uncontrolled adrenal gland problem. Use with caution if your pet has anemia, diabetes, heart disease, or pituitary or adrenal glands problems. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is currently receiving insulin. Inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking before starting treatment. In the case of a missed dose, give it as soon as you remember or wait until it is time to give the next dose. Do not give a double dose.
Allergic Reactions and Serious Side Effects
Allergic reactions and serious side effects are rare, but in the case of an allergic reaction or a serious side effect, seek veterinary attention immediately. Some common signs of an allergic reaction or a serious side effect are facial swelling, breathing difficulties, fainting, closing of the throat, or hives. If you notice these or any other behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while giving Thyro-Tabs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
