UlcerGard (Omeprazoel) is an over the counter medication used for the prevention of gastric ulcers in horses.


UlcerGard Basics

UlcerGard is a proton-pump inhibitor, related to Prilosec-OTC, that decreases the production of acid in the stomach in horses. It’s active ingredient is omeprazole. UlcerGard prevents ulcers by maintaining optimal gastric health and is for use during training, racing, showing, traveling, stall confinement, and competition.

This product is available over the counter and, therefore, requires no prescription. It comes in single syringes.

UlcerGard Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian and follow the instructions printed on the product packaging. Set the syringe plunger and slide the dose ring to appropriate daily dose. Ensure no feed is in the mouth, then depress the plunger until it stops at the dose ring. Duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, the response to the medication, and the development of any adverse effects. For use in equine only.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

UlcerGard Dosage

For horses weighing less than 600lbs, consult a veterinarian. Horses 600 – 1200 lbs, give 1 dose by mouth per day. Horses over 1200 lbs, give 2 doses by mouth per day.

UlcerGard Warning

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in foals less than 4 weeks old. Use with caution if your horse is pregnant or nursing. Do not use in humans. This product is for equine use only. If your horse’s condition does not improve or worsens, contact your veterinarian.
