Zycortal is a prescription medication used to treat hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s Disease) in dogs.
Zycortal treats Hyperadrenocorticism (Addison’s Disease) in dogs. This medication increases absorption of sodium and chloride ions, while also increasing secretion of potassium ion and hydrogen.
Zycortal requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in 4 mL bottles.
Use as directed by your veterinarian and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and response to the medication. Shake well before use. Zycortal is for intramuscular injection only. Do not inject intravenously.
Store bottles at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Zycortal is not intended for human use. Do not use this product in pets that are pregnant, suffer from heart failure, suffer from kidney disease, or suffer from edema. Do not use in pets with a hypersensitivity to desoxycorticosterone pivalate. Zycortal may interact with some other medicines. Therefore, inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking, especially aspirin, digoxin, or insulin. If you notice any behavioral or physiological side effects when administering this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects
Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, however, they can occur. Injecting Zycortal intravenously could cause serious side effects including shock. In the case of an adverse reaction or serious side effect, seek immediate veterinary attention.
